Nationwide Study Aims to Help Improve Post-Acute Care for TBI Patients
“A $12.7 million award from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is funding a study to determine the evidence-based information necessary to help improve post-acute care for traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients,” according to Physical Therapy Products. “During the 5-year project, the research team plans to enroll 900 people with moderate to severe TBI who are discharged from inpatient rehabilitation at one of six facilities. The participating patients will be placed in one of two groups: standardized discharge care, which includes advice and referral sources, and standardized discharge care with a care manager who will assess for unmet needs and assist with coordination of care via telephone over 6 months. The project team will compare functioning and quality of life at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months in these two groups.”
