African Leadership & Reconciliation Ministries (ALARM) was founded in 1994 in response to the aftermath of the Rwandan genocide, which left a tragic and sudden vacuum of African Christian leadership. Ordained Baptist minister, Rev. Dr. Celestin Musekura and wife Bernadette felt called to equip indigenous Africans with training in ministry and church leadership so that they might rebuild a hurting Africa. Today, ALARM works to strengthen the African church to be an instrument of transformation by focusing on developing servant leaders, reconciling relationships and transforming communities.
ALARM is currently seeking a Major Gifts Officer to cultivate and steward major gift prospects to sustain the organization and advance its mission. The Major Gifts Officer will provide ongoing and proactive relationship management, strategic communications plans, gifts cultivation and solicitation activity for various donor groups, with an emphasis on securing gifts of $5,000 and higher. Additionally, the Major Gifts Officer will steward ALARM’s relationship with 20 churches that have been or may become major gift partners. The Major Gifts Officer reports directly to the Vice President of Resource Development and works closely with other organizational leaders including those in ALARM’s Africa Office, the President, and ALARM board members.
The ideal MGO candidate will possess extensive experience in nonprofit fundraising with a proven track record of major gifts success and/or a strong working knowledge of strategy development and moves management systems in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship processes. He/she must also demonstrate an understanding of the developing world and a heart for ALARM’s mission of church unity and reconciliation in Africa.
