Urwego Opportunity Bank (UOB) is owned and operated as a partnership of shareholders including Opportunity International (50%), Hope International, (37%) and World Relief (13%). With $22 million in assets currently under management and 260 employees, UOB is serving over 170,000 Rwandans through its savings accounts, microloan and micro insurance products. The Mission of UOB is to provide a reliable and efficient model for the underprivileged of Rwanda to attain through individual and community accountability greater dignity and hope, improve their lives and become contributing members of their communities. With this in mind, UOB offers small business loans, business training and support, savings accounts, micro insurance and other services to help Rwandans grow and maintain their finances while building a healthier private sector.

The CEO is responsible for building the corporate culture which reflects the core Christian values of its co-shareholders, Opportunity International, Hope International and World Relief. Reporting to the Opportunity International Regional Managing Director for Africa and the UOB Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer leads and manages the leadership team and staff of the bank. The CEO provides overall direction to the organization and ensures maximum outreach, sustainability, and transformation of the bank’s operations. The CEO also provides expertise, information, advice and counsel concerning the affairs of the institution to the Board of Directors, the shareholders and their networks to ensure accountability to all stakeholders. Finally, the CEO develops and recommends corporate policies as well as short-term and long-term business plans for Board approval and implementation.
