Years ago, a mentor, old at the time but younger than I am today, said to me, “‘Tired’ is something that happens to all of us. Everyone is tired from time to time. But ‘weariness’ is a state of mind. We can do something about it. We don’t have to be weary.” How do we get from weariness to winning?
Despite the admonition of my mentor, I confess that I’ve sometimes allowed myself to become weary. Perhaps you have, too. Centering myself in these moments on my abiding faith in God has done more than anything else to nudge me out of my paralysis.
But another important factor, one that I have sometimes overlooked, is the importance of the team surrounding us. When you’ve found yourself within a really great team, sharing burdens, finding answers, unlocking strategies, and building support moves everyone from weariness to winning. Individual leadership is vital; teams are transformational.
