Hunter Street Baptist Church is a flagship, family-oriented congregation based in Hoover, Alabama. It is related to the Southern Baptist Convention through its affiliation with the Alabama Baptist State Convention. HSBC was established in 1907. It was originally located in the western section of Birmingham, some twenty miles from its current location.
Being a large church that feels small, the pastoral role of Hunter Street Baptist Church is less like a CEO and more like a shepherd, and not just for the crowd that gathers for worship services, but to the many generations represented at HSBC and the community at large. The pastor-preacher must value relationships with people and Biblical, expository preaching, emphasizing the sovereignty of God as the church’s theological position. He must lead with clear vision while honoring the legacy members of HSBC and the uniqueness of HSBC in Hoover, AL.
The leadership of HSBC will assist and come alongside in support of the Pastor in meeting and learning the congregation on a personal level while shepherding the congregation. The PSC would recommend for this period of time to be a time of assessment for the new Pastor to prayerfully contemplate and determine the “why” of how ministries and worship are being conducted for any potential future changes to be fully informed before being strategically and operationally initiated for adoption.
