Faith-based University Names New Nursing Chair

Maryland-based Washington Adventist University (WAU) recently appointed Emily Mize, RN, PhD to serve as Chair of the Department of Nursing.  The Edyth T. James Department of Nursing is part of the University’s School of Health Professions, Science and Wellness.

Mize has more than 30 years of experience in health care leadership and Nursing education. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Walla Walla College and a Master of Nursing from the University of Washington.  She also recently completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in nursing from Oregon Health and Science University. Mize is committed to nursing education and has a passion for helping students and nursing faculty grow professionally. She has previously been part of the nursing faculty at Pacific Lutheran University and Clover Park Technical College. Maize is a Certified Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and also has certifications from the Emergency Nurses Association.

Mize accepted the Chair position in the Department of Nursing at WAU following a search engagement managed by Ivan Bartolome, a Senior Vice President at FaithSearch Partners.  “Emily is a focused nursing educator who has demonstrated an ability to organize nursing programs and curriculum,” said Bartolome. “Her research and background in community health should prove to be an asset to the nursing program at Washington Adventist University.”
