Memorial Hermann to Merge with Baylor Scott & White Creating Largest Health System in Texas
“Memorial Hermann Health System and Baylor Scott & White Health have signed a letter of intent to merge to create the largest health system in Texas Monday Oct. 1, 2018 in Houston. The CEO of Baylor Scott and White said the two entities will continue to use their old brand names in their respective service areas.” According to the Houston Chronicle, the merger would create a mega-system, treating patients in more than 30 counties.
Baptist Hospital Begins Moving in to Arkansas Facility
With the official opening slated for December 3, 2018, Baptist Hospital will be the new, and only, hospital in Crittenden County Arkansas. Construction is finished and Baptist has begun moving in, according to localmemphis.com. The community has been without a facility since 2014.
Methodist Dallas Breaks Ground on New Suburban Hospital
A groundbreaking ceremony was held October 5, 2018 for the five-story hospital and three-story medical office building, to be called Midlothian Methodist Medical Center. According to Focus Daily News, the $175 million campus is designed to meet the current and future needs of the rapidly growing area of the DFW metroplex. Projected to open in 2020, this will be the 11th hospital in the region to carry the Methodist brand.
New Name for Hospital: Houston Methodist Baytown
Changing names to evoke brand recognition and better align an organization with the service area is seen in many healthcare entities. Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital has changed its name to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital to better reflect its long-standing connection to its community.
