Ascension Ends Sponsorship of Catholic Health
“St. Louis-based Ascension, the largest nonprofit health system in the country, is ending its sponsorship of the Catholic Health hospital system in Buffalo,” The Buffalo News reports. Officials downplayed the significance of the move, saying that the relationship had run its course, and that there was no financial aspect to the decision. “The new governing structure will give more authority to the remaining sponsors and may simplify decision-making at the corporate level.” There will be no changes in identify, mission or day-to-day operations of the system.
Pope Francis: For a Hospital to Be Catholic, It Must First Be Human
The pope met with children and teenager patients at the Vatican’s pediatric hospital, according to Rome Reports. During the visit, he thanked doctors and the children’s families and gave the statement, “There is the danger, the risk of forgetting that the most important medicine can only be given by a family: caresses. But if this is a Catholic hospital, wait, to be Catholic, you have to be human first. And you give a witness to humanity today.”
Dignity Health St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach Hires New CEO
“Dignity Health St. Mary Medical Center has appointed Carolyn Caldwell to serve as its president and chief executive officer, beginning in June,” reports Press-Telegram. “In her most recent role, Caldwell served as CEO at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, a 385-bed, referral-based, acute care facility serving citizens in the Coachella Valley. Similarly, St. Mary is 389-bed acute care, nonprofit hospital serving Long Beach and surrounding cities.”
New President Named for Presence Saint Francis Hospital
“Beginning May 1, Kenneth Preston Jones, MHA, MBA, will assume the role of President of Presence Saint Francis Hospital (PSFH) of Evanston, Illinois,” according to Evanston RoundTable. “In his most recent position, he was Chief Executive Officer at St. Joseph Hospital, a full-service hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Presence Saint Francis Hospital is a nationally recognized, full-service hospital with a Level I Trauma Center and is listed as one of the Best Hospitals in Metro Chicago by U.S. News & World Report.”
CHI Names Hospital President for St. Francis
CHI Health St. Francis has named Ed Hannon as its new President, KHGI Nebraska TV reports. “He comes to Grand Island from Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. Hannon will replace Dan McElligott, who resigned as St. Francis president last November to pursue other interests.”
