Ascension Michigan Launches Next Phase of Rebranding
“Ascension Michigan has taken the next step in integrating its brand across Michigan and creating a clear and consistent identity with the renaming of all Ascension hospitals in southeast Michigan,” stated Ascension Health in a news release. “In the coming weeks, exterior and interior signage, and branded materials, will be updated with the Ascension name and logo at all Ascension hospitals and outpatient facilities in southeast Michigan. The new naming convention makes ‘Ascension’ the first word in every name. The renaming of Ascension Crittenton Hospital to Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital signals its formal transition to a Catholic hospital and means increased clinical integration, physician integration and service line integration with Ascension Providence Hospital.”
Theron Park Appointed Market President & CEO of CHI St. Joseph Hospital

A well-respected healthcare leader, Theron brings to CHI St. Joseph an accomplished, established career as an administrator committed to continuous quality improvement and the highest standards of clinical excellence,” KBTX-TV Channel 3 reports. “Theron joins the CHI Texas Division from Providence St. Joseph Health, Oregon Region, where he served as Chief Executive, Delivery System. He led more than 10,000 caregivers who cared for patients in eight hospitals, 14 joint ventures, a large reference lab, and more than 60 outpatient sites spread across five geographic markets. Providence St. Joseph is among the largest Catholic health systems in the country.”
New President Named at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital
“SSM Health St. Mary’s Hosptial-Centralia has a new president,” according to KFVS. “On June 3, Centralia native Damon Harbison was named the new President after serving as interim President since February 26, 2018, after the retirement of John Sigsbury. Not only is Mr. Harbison a graduate of Centralia High School, one of his earliest jobs in life was as a food service worker at St. Mary’s Hospital. Prior to his arrival at St. Mary’s Hospital, Harbison served as a senior leader for more than seven years at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital (St. Louis, MO) where he most recently served as Chief Operating Officer/Vice President of Operations since March 2012.”
Providence St. Joseph Adds Former Intermountain CEO to Board

His appointment is the latest in a trend in which large health system boards are adding members with specialized expertise to their boards to help them reorient to the patient in implementing clinical and operational best practices,” reports Health Leaders. “Sorenson should fit well on a board that advises fellow physician leader Rod Hochman, MD, PSJH’s president and CEO, who’s executing a bold vision of growth and transformation. Sorenson, who retired as Intermountain Healthcare’s president and CEO about a year and a half ago to make way for current President and CEO Marc Harrison, MD, could help PSJH further transform the organization into one that produces better outcomes for patients at lower costs.”
Mercy Health Names Robert Maloney Chief Operating Officer of Anderson Hospital
“Cincinnati announces that Robert J. Maloney, Jr., FACHE, DPT, MBA, has joined Mercy Health as Chief Operating Officer of Anderson Hospital,” Mercy Health announced in a statement. “Maloney assumed his role on June 18 and reports to Ken James, Mercy Health East Market President and CEO. As the chief operating officer, Maloney’s responsibilities include oversight of hospital operations, including multiple clinical and support departments. Before joining Mercy Health, Maloney served as chief operating officer of Frankfort Regional Medical Center, part of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), in Frankfort, Kentucky.”
